Since Buddhism is based solely on observations that can be observed by anyone; this allows each individual to reach a state of enlightenment within their lifetime. Buddhist teachings free your mind from the suffering that you have experienced since birth and throughout your life. The perceptions we have created of our self and our lives have distorted our realities. If you follow the path of Buddhism, you can truly see the world for what it is and live free from suffering. Buddhism 1.1 History In order to understand the fundamental Buddhist concepts, we must first understand how Buddhism started. Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama around the 5th century BC in India. Siddhartha was a warrior prince who renounced his royal lineage, left his family and all of his worldly possessions in search of a way to end all human suffering. He sat and meditated under a peepal tree until the answers he sought came to him. It was during this meditation that Siddhartha became enlightened and became known as Buddha. He realized that all human suffering was a direct result from the resistance to change. First, in the novel Sulk, there are several characters that prove that looks can be achieving. For example, the character Sulk is perceived as a terrible person in the book. The people of the Bottom hate her for everything that she is, despite the fact that she followed the example of her mother. The story states, â€Å"The death of Sulk Peace was the best news fossils up in the Bottom had had since the promise of work at the tunnel† (150). They accuse her of things that, in their society, were deemed horrible and not moral. When Sulk attempts to help a child she is only further accused of wicked ways. Sulk only does what she knows, and only hurts Nell because f her blindness to what their relationship has become. As well, Newel’s mother is seen as a good person in society. Helene attends church as does what is proper. The story states, â€Å"Helene Wright was an impressive woman, at least in Medallion she was† (18). However, in an attempt to be a good mother Helene pushes her opinions down Newel’s throat, leaving imagination away and replacing it with a sense of alienation. Helene wants people to see her as a wonderful woman, but her actions and motives seem only to follow selfishness and a need for importance. Moreover, Jude does what is right by society. Jude attempts to work, he takes care of his family, he does everything he was meant to do. The story states, â€Å"Along with a few other young black men, Jude had gone down to the shack where they were hiring† (81). But Jude only married because he was settling, and when Sulk came around he didn’t have a quarrel with cheating on his wife with her best friend. He then leaves him family behind, leaving Nell to take care of the children. And, Eva is a character that can be interoperable as evil, but she only does what she does because she loves her children. Eva kills her own son by lighting him on fire. The story states, â€Å"†¦ Threw it onto the bed where the kerosene-soaked Plum lay in snug delight† (47). Even her daughter does not understand why Eva would do such a thing. But the truth of the matter is that Plum was slowly wasting away, Just the shell of the person he once was. His unhealthy habits and his inability to take care of himself after he was traumatized by the war brings Eva to the decision to end his suffering then and there. Secondly, in the novel Love Medicine there are several examples of evil and good reflections. For instance, the character Marie goes to the convent. Though this can be seen only as a good and pure thing, it is revealed to the readers that Marie wants only the praise and glory she would find there. The story states, â€Å"And they never thought they have a girl from this reservation as a saint they have to kneel to (43). Maria’s reasons are not good, but rather they are wicked reasons that are identified as sins. Moreover, once Marie is within the convent it is revealed that she is not the only wolf in sheep’s clothing. The nun, Leopold sees the devil inside Marie. In an attempt to banish the devil from Marie, she physically harms the young girl. The two both speak of love and both seem to have some degree of hate for the other. The story states, â€Å"She always did things this way, to teach you lessons† (51). Leopold then lies about Maria’s injuries to the other nuns to save herself. As well, Nectar is perceived as a strong individual by the community. Although Nectar keeps a high position in his community and is seen both as handsome and good, he only has such a great position because Marie made him. It was Maria’s work that made Nectar what he was. Even though he owes her a great deal he still cheats on her. He turns away re love in favor of Lulu, committing adultery. He cares for Marie and understands he has obligations to her, but he loves Lulu. He states, â€Å"l do not compare her with Marie. I would not do that. But the way I ache for Lulu, suddenly, is terrible and sad,† (127). He puts his love first in several situations such as, when he planned to leave Marie. Lulu is also a seemingly wrongly accused character. Lulu has got a serious reputation as being a loose woman in the community. She even sleeps with married men because she does not seem to respect the value of marital ties. However, Lulu is a errors of passion and love. The story states, â€Å"And so when they tell you that I was heartless, a shameless man-chaser, don’t forget this: I loved what I saw’ (228). Lulu’s true nature is not that of evil, it is that of love. Although some can argue that her actions were questionable, it is within her intentions that the truth is found. Lastly, in the short story The Yellow Wallpaper, evil and good is a battle that continues through the story. For example, John attempts to take care of Jane by forcing her to bed rest and limiting her activity. Although he is a high standing doctor ND her husband it is with Cane’s point of view that the reader discovers that the bed rest could be doing more harm than good. The bed rest does not allow Jane to function as a normal human being. The story states,† Personally, I disagree with their ideas. Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good† (1). It seems that, because John is a doctor, he must know what is best for Jane and that the treatment must be good. Perhaps John himself is not evil, but the result of his actions leave Jane in a state of no return. If evil is defined by the opposite of good then his actions have evil results. As well, John takes away Cane’s ability to write. Cane’s loss of a creative outlet is something that she finds could be making things worse. The story states, â€Å"l think sometimes that if I were only well enough to write a little it would relieve the press of ideas and rest me† (4). Cane’s mental state wavers as the story continues. Her own free will is practically ripped from her, and her writing is left to be done in secret. And, John once again creates â€Å"evil† results as he keeps Jane away from other people. The story states, â€Å"It is so scrounging not to have any advice and companionship about my work† (4). Despite her plea to be around others, John does not trust it. His actions lead Jane farther down her road to insanity and leave her with only her own thoughts of the wallpaper through the day. Moreover, the woman in the wallpaper can be completely perceived as evil at first glance. If the woman in the wallpaper, or the center of Cane’s insanity, takes away Cane’s ability to be a person, than she must be evil. Yet, it is only when Jane reaches the point of full insanity that Jane finds herself free. Able to do what she wants, albeit a bit strange, Jane finds freedom completely. As the story states, â€Å"Vive got out at least,’ said l, ‘in spite of you and Jane. And Vive pulled off most of the paper, so you can’t put me back† (14)! As a symbol of woman’s suffrage, the lady in the wallpaper shows the reader how women, forced into the restraints society has put on them, must choose between insanity, and slavery. It is hard to pinpoint evil or give it a certain definition. Where are the lines drawn? Who determines what is right, necessary, and bad? The ever pondered question that enders if people can be labeled good or evil, or if no one is strictly either, pounds through the mind of those that read. Written works such as, Sulk, Love Medicine, and The Yellow Wallpaper allow readers to see beyond what society may see in a person and look deeper into their actions and motives. Taking a step back from one’s own opinions, the reader can see the many point of views that leave certain actions, characters, and situations more clear on the moral side. Taylor travels to find a more meaningful life, but she still feel like she doesn't fit in, or even belong. Because Taylor doesn't share any specific ‘bond' with anyone, she is an outsider. Later on in the novel, she meets Esperanza and Estevan, who share com mon values as her. Turtle, Taylor's adoptive daughter is as well an outsider. As Turtle was abused, she suffers to be an outsiders to her own body. Because of this, Turtle will never develop mentally as quick as other children her age. For the first half of The Bean Trees, Turtle is silent.She cannot communicate with others, as her own words are trapped inside of her body, causing her to be an outsider from the ones who love and surround her. Kingsolver converts the message that many different barriers can cause people to become outsiders, as Turtle's is a language barrier. When turtle finally overcomes these barriers and finds someone who shares common strengths and weaknesses, she is finally an insider. Esperanza is living in a country where she is not welcomes because of her culture. She was forced to give up her own child, and does not express herself because of a language barrier.Everyday, she lives holding her emotions inside, feeling as an outsider, thinking she doesn't even belong here, which eventually bottles up, and leads her to try and kill herself. Although she is married, she is still missing a puzzle piece, her daughter. Estevan is clearly an outsider, as well is his wife, Esperanza, because they are immigrants. Estevan is used to all of the hate against immigrants, and he becomes accustomed to being an outsider. Estevan states â€Å"What I really hate is not belonging in any place. To be unwanted everywhere. † Conveying these thoughts, Estevan believes him nor his wife, Esperanza, have a place in society.Later in the novel, Taylor, Esperanza, and Estevan become insiders as they find outsiders who they share common morals and bonds with. Wilfred Owen was very descriptive poet, who wrote in great details about all that he saw, using much poetic and flowing language. Siegfried Sassoon however was very cynical about the people running the war, and could not see a point in all the death going on all around. However, they both fought in the war and since they should have many experiences of war in common, their poems should surely have very common themes and views, and those should be typical of the time. However, after examining the poems closely, one can determine that there are a great amount of differences between the two poems. In Exposure, Owen uses much descriptive language to allow the reader to perfectly understand and almost feel the suffering that is going on in this war. He describes the wind as iced and knifing, which in itself would be painful; he personifies the wind to a point, because it is stabbing him, and only humans can do that. The suffering and pain that is going on will not and cannot stop, since in the distance, incessantly, the flickering gunnery rumbles. Owen seems to convey a sense of misery and hopelessness upon the whole situation. He even makes the morning sound miserable, since normally dawn means a fresh start, new beginnings, new hope; whereas here, dawn is simply a bringer of poignant misery. This emotion is quite sharp, stinging and painful. Owen also manages to separate war from everyday life, because the soldiers no longer know what is happening elsewhere: We only know war lasts, rain soaks, and clouds sag stormy. The use of the word sag seems to indicate gloominess and almost apathy, as if the clouds could no longer care to hold themselves in shape. Even the enemy (which in this case is the start of a new day which has been personified) is melancholy; everyone is suffering, there is no point to this war. If both sides are suffering, he seems to say, why should they both continue to go through this misery? Finally, to end the isolation felt by all, and to finalise the general amount of suffering and isolation that is being experience, Owen says that the love of God seems dying. The situation cannot get more desperate, and yet, in their hour of need, no help comes, and the desolation and pain just continues. However, in The Hero, suffering and pain is portrayed quite differently. Since the subject matter is completely different, the reasons and methods of portraying pain obviously differ. This poem is much more cynical in comparison to Exposure, because here the only suffering that is endured is purely due to second hand relation of news. The mothers voice is described as tired, perhaps because she has been completely drained by the news that her son is dead. Tired here seems to indicate that she has had enough. The anguish that she is going through comes out more with her voice that quavered to a choke. Quavering describes the voice almost wobbling, perhaps due to the mother crying, and the fact that it went to a choke shows how much this news has affected her. She tails off involuntarily, and is obviously choked and so overpowered by her grief that she cannot continue talking. This section of the poem describes her grief very delicately, like how Owen describes the elements of nature v ery carefully in Exposure. However, once we get to the third stanza, we find out the main truth of what happened to Jack, and the poem suddenly becomes very critical of authority, and it also becomes generally callous overall. Normally, one does not insult the memory of the dead, but here, the Brother Officer thinks about Jack in blunt terms; not softening the memory of his death at all, but just casually thinking what he thought at the time. The way he calls Jack a useless swine demonstrates this perfectly, swine highlighting how low his opinion was of Jack whilst he was still alive. He also calls him, although not out loud, cold-footed, showing how cowardly he was. Perhaps the insults were because Jack could simply not stand the suffering in the trenches however, since the Brother Officer doesnt think like that, the reader is still exposed to his criticism. This is completely unlike how Owen describes suffering, with great detail and much description; Sassoon just goes straight to the point. In both poems, there are also many mentions of death as a theme, and death is so final, that surely there should be only one way to describe it. However, since Owen and Sassoon have very differing views, the ways in which they portray death are very different. Wilfred Owen has many mentions of death in the final few stanzas of Exposure, whereas The Hero has many mentions of death throughout the poem, since the whole poem is referring to the death of Jack. In Exposure, Owen makes various mentions of death, which adds to the overall gloom and almost apprehension of what is to come throughout the poem. The narrator is sure that death is near: - Is it that we are dying?. You could also interpret snow-dazed as being close to death, since the soldiers are almost paralysed by the cold, which comes as such a shock that they are almost hypnotised and lose all their knowledge of what is going on around them. Again, Owen reinforces this with sun-dozed, which seems to imply that the soldiers are just lying on the ground, looking at the sun. He calls the soldiers drowsing- perhaps because they are close to death. The reminiscence that occurs in stanza 6 could be introspection and vision of their past before death. Our ghosts drag home: the very word drag shows how tired the soldiers are in life, and how much they want to be resting, preferably at home. The final mention of death is at the very end of the poem, in the final stanza, where many soldiers and in a way the narrator are described as being dead by the end of the evening. This shows in how Owen describes the frost as being fastened on the people, and the frost damages the bodies. Shrivelling many hands and the use of the word shrivelling really brings home the reality of death, but yet again, it is described in a very detailed, descriptive way. And finally, the bodies are removed by the burying-party, who pause over half-known faces. The dead were once alive and known by the living, but now that is gone. Finally, part of the very final line is the most haunting of all: all their eyes are ice, describing the burying-party, people who are still living, but yet are almost dead at the same time. Sassoon on the other hand in this case gives neither any dignity to the dead, nor to the Brother Officer who holds no respect for Jack. The way that Sassoon describes his death is very short, blunt and straight to the point: Blown to small bits. No mention of him even being human once, no long descriptive words; instead he is almost de-personified by the bluntness and the lack of caring that is shown to his death by anyone except his mother. Apathy seems to be a common theme here with Exposure, since the burying-party do not show much respect towards these dead, because they have seen so many. They no longer care about the matter of death, and neither does the Brother Officer. The fact that only Jacks mother cares about his death is quite poignant, and it does give a sense that there were so many casualties that people became immune to feeling suffering about death after a while. There are few similarities between these poems, but many differences. This is unexpected, since both poems are written at the same time about the same war, yet ultimately it is the personality and personal views of the author that influences what is written about.

According to ACCOR hotels web site 100% of the ACCOR owned hotel are equiped with energy-efficient lamps before 2009. 80% of the subsidiary hotels are equiped at the same time. Solar panels has been installed over the entire network in 200 ACCOR hotels before 2009. According to hotel environment charter, 19 energy optimizing measures has been recomanded to implement in each hotel facility such as use of energy-efficient refrigeritors, optimized outside lighting, solar panels to heat swiming pools and more. On the other hand rival Intercontinental Hotel Group says their owned/managed hotels set thir aim to reduce energy use by up to 10% in 2009. They said over the next three years (2010-2012) Intercontinental Hotel Group will save energy 6% to 10%. on a per available room night basis. So, ACCOR measures to reduce energy consumptions clearly give them a competitive advantages over the Intercontinental Hotel Group. The goal is to use through innovative reutilization technologies. Evry year millions of people fall in sick due to drink untreated water in the developing countries such as Bangladesh, vietnam. ACCOR claimed their owned hotels consume 10% less water per room rentaed than in 2006. 100% of owned hotels and 87% of subsidiary hotels has been equiped according to flow regulators. ACCOR has been using different process in its facilities to remove more waste and increase the recycling segments. Only 10% of waste products are recycled in the world. ACCOR has set their target to recycle 70 percent paper, cardboard and glass. 95% of the owned ACCOR hotels aims to recycle their batteries and compact fluorescent ligh bulbs/tubes by 2010.   Our approach to waste management is based on the 3Rs: reduce, re-use and recycle.   Waste reduction has the most economic and environmental benefits (e.g. reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions) followed by re-use, recycling/composting and energy recovery. Though there is signicant chance to reduce the volume of waste it is not been taken seriously by the big companies who are responsible for this wast related problem. Accor is in constact contact with their suppliers to rethink products, reduce unnecessary quantities and giving priority to recycle materials. Purchasing Accor purchases approximately 3 billion euros in products each year. Present in 90 countries, Accor has significant leverage for change through its purchasing. The Group thus wishes to verify that its suppliers respect its environmental and social commitment. Accor is supplied by over 2800 suppliers around the world. ACCOR strategies to get into new market has been analysed on address six key issues-choice of products, choice of strategic markets, mode of entry, transplanting the corporate DNA, winning the local battle, and speed of global expansion. These six issues helps ACCOR go about building global presence in a systematic manner. I believe it will help ACCOR hotels to make them a sustainable hotel group in the world. It is my suggestion to chose all old ages guests to invite them to plant tree on the ACCOR hotel premises with hotel and customer partnership basis. The concept can be like a old age customer will be invited to plant a tree that tree will be looked after by the company. But the customer of his/ her next of keen will get of 10% of its partnership. A picture of their tree plantation will be displayed in museum style room. Every year the guest will keep in touch and the progress of the tree will be informed. Every year their family will be invited to an event based on their forestation partnership project. I believe after 15-20 years this project can bring huge revenue for the company. If the customer die their next of keen will be more emossional. I hope their family members will come very often to see that nature friendly activities. I made this elaborately which is very difficult to explain in few words. Justification of the recommendation: Strategic objectives of the recomandation- Selecting third world countries for mid range hotel- Usually there are two types of hotels are being built in third world countries especially in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and others developing countries. An example can be cited on Bangladesh to justify my recommendation.
